Lisa Gaynor

Creator and Proprietor

Lisa’s first foray into the furniture business took place when− at the age of 8− she was not satisfied with the quality and style of the furniture that came with her Barbie Dream House ™, so she made her own. At the time, she had no idea that she had already found what would become her life’s work.

Creative endeavors had always been a driving force in her life, even as she completed her undergraduate work at Texas Tech University, earning a degree in Advertising, and moved to Chicago for several years to pursue her corporate career and work on her MBA.

Lisa first discovered consignment shopping at the urging of a designer friend who was helping her decorate her first home with her husband, Dan. Their newlywed budget was tight, but she did not want to compromise her desire for quality furniture. Shopping at upscale furniture consignment stores became the perfect solution!

While traveling with her job in corporate America, Lisa had the opportunity to shop in dozens of consignment furniture stores across the US, Canada, and even Mexico. By the time she was caught in a corporate downsizing, the seeds for Design With Consignment had already taken root.

In creating Design With Consignment, Lisa applied the lessons learned from the years of research; sought out the best education available in the industry from National Association of Professional Resalers, and used these tools to provide Austin the “best of the best” in upscale furniture consignment.

David Wasley

Lead Designer & Merchandiser

The art of merchandising is second nature for David. Even as a child he was told not to re-arrange furniture while visiting friends and relatives. But, soon enough, those same relative and friends came clamoring for his assistance and keen eye. “Grouping furniture has an element of puzzle solving; If you can figure out how to unconventionally group pieces that complement each other with color, scale and style – than you will have a shop that flows and feels unique.”

After Graduating from college with degree in Education, David enjoyed success in the fields of education and hospitality management, but found he kept being called back to do creative work in some form or another. During his professional career, David has honed his design skills on a variety of projects: residential design consulting, retail merchandising, and renovation of a European-style, turn-of-the century hotel. Inspired by Austin’s famously eclectic design scene, David began specializing in architecturals and antiques. Over the years, his eye for design and style has transformed merchandising into an art form.

Today, he has helped make Design With Consignment the upscale consignment boutique that is changing Austin’s perceptions of “consignment shopping”. He applies his mastery of sourcing, grouping and display to create ever changing vignettes. “Having a deeper appreciation for all things recycled – be it a column capital or a couch – inspires the search for consignments suitable for “re-use and re-purposing”.

sarahSarah Hale

Sarah brings a unique blend of creativity and attention to detail to the Design With Consignment team. Our Fort Worth native found that she had both sets of skills when her family renovated their home when she was a teenager. “Dad taught me how to read plans, and Mom and I worked out the design and color schemes”, she explains. She also gained real-world experience during the project as she helped replace floors, lay tile, and work on landscaping.

Majoring in Design at the Art Institute of Dallas was the perfect launching pad for her career. She learned CAD as part of the degree program; assisted with drawings for Jamba Juice and wrote design specifications for Armstrong Tile.

At Design With Consignment, Sarah is putting her design skills to use daily as new items arrive and need to be worked into vignettes in the showroom. “It’s cool how you see things separately, and when you put them together, it becomes something entirely different.”

But, it’s not just design skill that makes Sarah such a great addition to the Design With Consignment team. Sarah has a genuine interest in people and loves to hear the stories behind the furniture they want to sell. Her enjoyment becomes infectious when her wonderful, heartfelt laughter can be heard throughout the shop
